A few weeks after we got married, Justin came home from school and flippantly mentioned that someday we might be able to live in Naples, Italy while he did research there for his master's thesis. My response was not flippant. I seriously wanted to go! Justin was surprised that I was so eager and he started to take the idea seriously.
When we visited Italy for the first time several months later, we talked about how we might end up living there. A year later Justin went on an official visit with his professor to meet the people with which he would work if we went. Justin started working on grant applications 16 months before our projected departure date. In May of this year, we finally were notified that Justin had been awarded a Fulbright Grant and a BYU Graduate Studies Fellowship for his research project working on the Herculaneum Papyri.
In the meantime, we were expecting our first baby, a girl. Noelle arrived less than three months before we left for Naples. Just in time!
After three years of dreaming about living in Italy, we packed up our apartment in Provo and set off for Napoli with our newborn in tow. It has been a long time coming. We will be living here for nine months starting October 2014. This blog is intended to document our experiences living in this magnificent city.
